Cd. Victoria to San MIguel de Allende

living.boondockingmexico@yahoo.com

I'm really sorry we don't have the rv with us.  The SUV is fixed but we need to give it more time before I will trust it with the rv.  It's not like Good Sam will come and tow us, hahaha.  We took a route new to us that would be a boondockers delight.

We drove south from the house on Hwy 85 and instead of crossing the mountains at Linares we kept straight ahead to Ciudad Victoria and then on to San Miguel de Allende. There is always next time but this is a beautiful drive through mountains and down into the plains passing San Luis Potosi and then on to SMA.

Leaving Linares and entering the road south to the state of Tamaulipas.  Things are much better these days and we saw a state police patrol every 15 to 20 minutes all throughout our route.  A couple of federales, and one not so good car accident.

As we headed down the mountains we came into the plains of San Luis Potosi.

Excellent highways throughout the trip!

We're not much of mappers and we just flow the signs.  We ran into two small tolls that came to about 75 pesos total, with a car it isn't expensive.  This toll booth has a Día de Los Muertos display!

We passed Juamave, Tamaulipas where we would have boondocked the first night.  It looks like a winner and we'll just have to do it someday soon.  Actually, it is a short day's drive from home and we could do it anytime.

He looked so sad and helpless.  Maybe he recovered or at least closed his eyes to sleep.

As we were coming off the highway from Los Rodriguez and into SMA, in front of the university, we saw a squirrel sitting in the middle of the road and he was doing circles.  It was obvious he had either been hit or he was sick.  We stopped traffic and found a way to get him into a plastic grocery bag, kind of like a sling.  We got him about five meters off the road and into the grasses.  Better to die peacefully than run over.

Arriving to the Airbnb on time, we were met by the owner who showed us the ropes and left the keys.  We had a relaxing happy hour and called it an early evening.  We decided to come a couple of days earlier to see the events of Día de Los Muertos which we have never done in San Miguel de Allende.

Today we met our first housesit and made arrangements to take over tomorrow, Monday, morning.  We also met our second housesit and both the houses are truly beautiful and the cats that go with them will make it a real treat for us.  Imagine, waking up with a cat in your face!

More on that this week.  We hope to get a couple of hikes in, see a concert or two.  One thing about SMA is the never-ending list of events.
