Last night, Mexico surpassed what has been deemed the "catastrophic" level with the COVID virus. The picture above represents two stadiums with total capacity between them of 61,000 people. Mexico is only testing those that go to hospitals for treatment. In other words, after the fact. The term "catastrophic" was used on June 4, 2020, by our Under Secretary of Health. He said that we would reach that point at 60,000 deaths.
Mexico's population is roughly 130 million. Based on that, we are passing the U.S. level of deaths per population.
What is the status of your northern border? I have heard both that it is closed and that people are going through. That may be a factor. Canada closed her land border to the US to everything bit essential traffic (freight) but there is the "Alaska Loophole" where you are allowed through if you declare you are "on your way to Alaska" and then you must take the most direct route and have as little contact with people along the way as possible. But the fact remains that at least partially closing the border helped.
ReplyDeleteMexico agreed to the same closer dates as Canada and the U.S., September 21st. Then again, it appears that some Mexican states are allowing people in but I believe those are people holding temporary and permanent residence. People need to use their heads and just stay home. It doesn't help that there are Mexicans and Americans that work on both sides of the border and are allowed to cross daily as it is considered essential or thought to be essential. Like in the U.S., each border agent has their own criteria. This is going to last at least two more years. I guess I can't understand why people would think that the Pandemic today would be any different from the 1918 pandemic.
DeleteChris, two small hurricanes in Gulf of Mexico at the same time. Now that is one for the history books, Marco looks to be headed directly to Houston or New Orleans as it hooks west. You may get some rain from Marco, as if you need more rain. The second, Laura, hooking east headed for Florida Panhandle. Contessa could sure use some of this water.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris-- Before I go on, I'll say when we used to rv MX-15 yrs-- missed 3 yrs past trying to sell our place , I'd say to Cardwells I thought your posts were so funny and they said you were really fun, also met Kevin and Ruth at defunct now -S???? near Masamitla rv park. That said--today sept 12th-- I've got NY times saying MX pop 130M covid cases are 658K/ deaths are 71K Us is 331M pop/ 6.4M cases covid and 193K deaths. I rounded up. So Mx appears to be quite less, though counting in both countries, is of course suspect. Why am I so interested? We are ready to get our permanent residency, almost, planning 6 mos ahead. I'm going to do paperwork from Roca Azul resort- I'm sure you know it. I SOOOOOOOOOO want to get on with it. Other question-- I'd really like to nationalize a small older 5th wheel which I haven't bought yet. I bet you would know in general, the pricing for that. Is it worth it? Is there somewhere to buy such in MX-- I haven't found anywhere. Occasionally an rv comes up on Craigslist PV, but we like little- 24 ft max. The other thing we love doing is beach camping since I'm a distance swimmer (older) on the Pacific. Ok so my covid figures seem a lot lower than yours and MX looks better than US where I am. But mostly I'm being pushed by having not since that coast for 3 years. Talk to me if you wish. thanks Caro
