Saturday was a relaxing day. We did a short hike around the lake, talked a
lot with Kevin and Ruth and played with the kids. We put together the grill for Kevin.
Last night Ruth fixed
curry. She know how much we like that
and it was better than ever. We had a
drink and then settled down for an entertaining evening with the African
travelogue. Kevin and Ruth spent several
months in Africa after winning an essay and photo contest. We had voted for them almost everyday on
Facebook hoping they would win and sure enough, they did.
A truly amazing tour
through Namibia and South Africa. They
answered a lot of questions we have always had about Africa and gave us their
take on what Africa is really like. Incredible
stories and pictures of African wildlife and its people and culture. We ended up going to bed around 11:30 last
night.
This morning we
prepared breakfast for everyone. Juan
made a great salsa to go over our huevos rancheros, and I made potatoes and
chorizo and some pretty mean refried beans.
No, we didn’t use the pinto beans from Bow Island, the town before Gas
City (Medicine Hat).
The big surprise of the
day is that blog readers Mark and Jean drove down from Saskatoon to have
lunch. They left in the morning arriving
here at the park around 11 a.m. They
brought some really delicious hot dogs and sausages that Kevin cooked on the
grill (not the one we put together, I think he was concerned about our assembly
talents). We had all the fixin’s;
cheese, salsa, guacamole, chips, pickles.
Mark and Jean have a
motorhome and are experiencing the joys of rving. They hope to someday come down to Mexico in
the rv. They have traveled extensively
to other countries as well; Costa Rica, Honduras, Trinidad, Mexico (Akumal) and
other places. It was a fun afternoon of
conversation and walks around the park.
We hope to see more of them in the future.
All in all it was great day.
We nailed down our dates to be in Nova Scotia with Jerry and Paula. We will be arriving there on July 14th
for a week before heading back down into the U.S. for our trek back to
Mexico. Time is flying and it has been
almost two months since we left Monterrey.
Homesickness has worn off and we are on the road. Tomorrow we head for our last stop in
Canada, Weyborn, SK., before heading into North Dakota and over to
Minnesota. We will then head for
Chicago to visit our friend Enrique who we haven’t seen for over 20 years but
keep in touch via internet.
Such a busy time you are having, meeting up with so many friends along the way. Keep having fun and travel safe.
