Bear Alert!

It's summer, it's hot and we are having a bit of a drought. Bears are coming down and into the city. So far this last two weeks we have had five bears rescued and returned to nature. They are on the hunt for food and water. Imagine, these bears are getting lost in people's garages, backyards, in trees.

Yesterday near my house, some construction workers caught a bear with a rope. They were parading the poor creature around in front of a school for the kids to see. The principal called the authorties but it was too late. The animal was in shock and an attempt to revive it is now underway. Semarnat (Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales) came to the rescue along with Protección Civil and the police were called in and the hooligan was arrested for mistreating animals. Justice is served. I will update later on the condition of the bear. Let's hope he makes it.
